The Back Room is the brainchild of Chartered Accountants, Wayne and Scott Findlay. Wayne and Scott have built a successful and modern accounting firm, Findlay & Co in Wanaka, New Zealand.
Wayne and Scott have tried outsourcing in various forms over the past seven years and for the past three years they have used the BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) model in the Philippines. They truly believe this is the best model for their business and for businesses in similar types of industries.
We believe that use of technology is at the heart of a good outsourcing practice. Xero and other cloud tools allow the off-shore staff to work effectively alongside the on-shore team.
Having your own dedicated team offshore with the ability to freely communicate and train them how you want, means they will fit with your business’s own culture and values.

Wayne Findlay is the founding director of both The Back Room and Findlay & Co Chartered Accountants. With a big vision and a passion for information technology, Wayne likes to explore new software and technology and drives the adoption of innovations in the business. His particular interest in cloud computing, and his comprehensive understanding of smart business tools, led him to establish The Back Room with brother Scott.
A family man, Wayne imparts his love of the outdoors and sport on his two children and is often seen going to work on his bike – preferring Lycra to a suit
Scott joins his brother, Wayne, as a director at Findlay & Co Chartered Accountants and The Back Room. Scott is admired for his sincere approach to helping clients understand their business. He’s easy to talk to and passionate about streamlining his customers systems, driving profit and helping his clients to reach their goals.
Scott is a father and husband with a sporty family. He’s an ultra-friendly, down to earth Kiwi bloke!
Margaret is our Business Manager at both Findlay & Co and The Backroom. Marg has played an integral, long-term role in the strategic direction and success of the businesses. Her key contributions to the team, other than just keeping things ticking on a daily basis, have been in streamlining processes and procedures and managing change.
In her spare time, Marg heads to the coast for some beach time, and when the weather doesn’t allow for outdoors activities she can be found reading, knitting (a newly re-discovered passion), or planning her next adventure with her husband Richard.
Mark has been instrumental in growing the business and navigating the best way forward with seeking a new premise and overseeing the recruitment and expansion of a dynamic team of mostly local (Pampanga Province) staff. Mark has a background in senior hotel management, which in recent years has seen him utilise his skills and knowledge in hotel design, consultancy and business start ups. He is passionate about customer care and creating a harmonious work environment. With over 20 years of living and working in South East Asia, he decided to adopt the Philippines as his home. After five years in the Philippines, Mark understands the culture and the fabric of the Filipino.
Having grown up in New Zealand, Mark likes nothing better than to watch rugby with his mates. He follows the Kiwi Super Rugby teams and, of course, the AB’s. Mark loves to travel and with Clark international airport on his doorstep, short breaks are easy. He also likes to get up to his knees in mud with adventure motorcycling around the Philippines.
Senior Accounting Team Leader
With a bachelor degree in Accountancy, CPA and Xero qualifications, and extensive accounting experience, Sharon is well placed to direct our Philippines team. Sharon initially joined Findlay & Co as an accountant in 2015 and was promoted to Senior Accounting Team Leader at The Back Room in 2017. Her role includes recruiting and then training new team members in Xero and New Zealand taxation. Prior to joining our team, Sharon spent 12 years working for local Philippine real estate and hospitality companies, including working as a senior accounting department leader.
Sharon isn’t afraid to admit she’s a homebody and finds simple pleasure by just staying at home. Although may be tempted to leave her house occasionally when beckoned by her foodie friends!
Jerylou has five years’ experience in general accounting and taxation with Philippine companies in a range of industries including automotive, retail, finance and human resources. This is backed by a CPA qualification and Xero certification.
Work-life balance is important for Jerylou and she likes to spend quality time with her family. We also hear she’s a great cook!
Juvy came to work for The Back Room with 10 years’ accounting experience working for the one of the largest shopping centres in the Philippines. She is a graduate of a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy, a Certified Public Accountant and is Xero Advisor certified. Juvy’s speciality areas include drafting of annual accounts and tax returns, filing of GST and other compliance activities.
In her spare time, Juvy loves to read, travel, play badminton and she enjoys fine food.
Training and Development Manager
Miguel works as an accountant for The Back Room’s parent company, Findlay & Co. He has worked as an offshore accountant for New Zealand accounting firms since he earned both his degree of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and CPA license in 2014. Using his expertise in Xero and experience in dealing with New Zealand accounting and taxation, he manages training and onboarding of the Philippines team members of The Back Room.
Miguel considers himself a “bookworm in the corner”, enjoying silent moments by himself, his growing collection of books and his poetry influenced by symphonic metal music. Being born in the culinary capital of the Philippines and raised by a family of kitchen experts, he enjoys exploring different cuisines.
